Henderson Community Spotlight: Why Local Leadership Starts in the Courtroom

When most people think about local leadership in Henderson, Nevada, they think about the mayor, the city council, or perhaps the school board. But there is another institution that quietly shapes the character of our community every single day; one that most residents only think about when they’re standing inside it.

For a city that prides itself on safety, fairness, and a strong sense of community, the courtroom is not a footnote in our civic life. It is one of its’ most important chapters.

What Happens Inside Henderson Municipal Court?

Henderson Municipal Court handles the legal matters that touch everyday life across our city. This isn’t about high-profile criminal trials or complex appellate arguments. This is about the real, everyday situations that affect Henderson families, businesses, and neighborhoods:

•       Traffic violations – speeding tickets, moving violations, and license suspensions that affect thousands of Henderson drivers each year

•       Misdemeanor criminal cases – including DUIs, petty theft, and other offenses with real consequences for individuals and families

•       City ordinance violations – noise complaints, business license matters, zoning issues, and code enforcement that shape the quality of life in Henderson’s neighborhoods

If you drive in Henderson, own a home or business here, or simply live in this community, Municipal Court has a direct role in maintaining the order and fairness of your daily life.

The Courtroom as a Reflection of Our Community Values

Here is something worth asking: what does it say about a community when the people who walk into its courtroom are treated with dignity, given a fair hearing, and leave with a clear understanding of what happened and why?

·       It says that our community takes justice seriously. It says that fairness isn’t just a campaign promise – it’s a practice.

Henderson has built a reputation as one of the most livable cities in America. We have great schools, strong neighborhoods, and a civic culture that values service and accountability. The courtroom should reflect those same values.

Why Henderson’s Leadership Pipeline Runs Through the Courthouse

Local leadership isn’t just about policy decisions made in a council chamber. It’s about the day-to-day choices that define how a city functions and who is trusted to make them. The Henderson Municipal Court judge makes hundreds of decisions each year that directly impact residents’ lives. Those decisions ripple outward: into families, workplaces, neighborhoods, and the broader community.

A judge who brings experience, consistency, and a genuine understanding of Henderson to the bench is exercising one of the most direct forms of local leadership available. That’s exactly why I’m running:

·       I have spent over 30 years practicing law in Henderson and Las Vegas, Nevada. I’ve stood in courtrooms, represented clients from all walks of life, and served as Judge Pro Tem in both Henderson and Las Vegas – presiding over real cases with real consequences.

·       I have also served the Veterans Treatment Court firsthand, regularly attending sessions and presiding over the program in Judge Stevens’ absence.

·       My commitment to community leadership doesn’t stop at the courthouse door. I currently serve as Treasurer of the Henderson Chamber of Commerce Foundation Board of Trustees and facilitate a High School Leadership program that shapes Henderson’s juniors into the civic leaders of tomorrow.

·       I graduated from Basic High School (when it was the only high school in Henderson) and have watched this city grow from a small community into one of Nevada’s most vibrant cities.

Leadership in Henderson starts close to home. And there is no place closer to home than this community I have served my entire life.

What Henderson Residents Deserve from Their Municipal Court

When a Henderson resident walks into Municipal Court, they deserve:

•       A judge who is prepared – who has reviewed the case, understands the law, and is ready to make a sound decision

•       A courtroom that is respectful – where everyone is addressed professionally regardless of their background or circumstances

•       Consistency – where similar cases are handled similarly, so residents can trust the process

•       Clarity – where the judge takes the time to explain what is happening and why, so people leave the courtroom informed rather than confused

•       Fairness – where the law is applied impartially, without favoritism, politics, or bias

These aren’t extraordinary standards. They are the baseline that every Henderson resident deserves, and the standard I am committed to upholding.
